Overview

Today's world is at a crossroads, there's worldwide evidence in the form of economic instability, political failure, and social unrest that humanity is going through a global change. As many experts are already seeing, the nature of that change is that we are becoming so interconnected and interdependent that the old systems are no longer working.

Since there is also ample evidence that the term "globalization" covers far more than the correlation between global financial markets, a more accurate meaning of the term should address the interconnected nature of society as a whole. We are "global" not just in the financial sense, but also, if not primarily, in the social sense.

The social unrest that began in 2011 and caught on like a global bushfire had demonstrated how social blazes can spread through continents, passing from one hot spot to the next via the wires of the World Wide Web.

We are all in one boat, and the sooner we all realize what is actually happening in the world, a safer and smoother transition will transpire.

While we have become globally interdependent, the mindset of self-centeredness still constitutes the predominant paradigm. Our interdependence has become a fact of life. But we, our way of thinking and our values, are still locked in the old paradigm. Therefore, the path to a viable solution for crises facing humanity today, must start at aligning ourselves with the new emerging conditions: we must educate and elevate ourselves to embrace our mutual dependence and responsibility for each other.

No longer will countries and peoples exploit one another; no longer will mammoth consortiums exploit tens of millions of underpaid workers around the world; no longer will children be allowed to die of hunger and illnesses that can be treated with common antibiotics, and no longer will women be abused simply because they are women.

In a world where people realize that their own well-being depends on the well-being of others, they will care for others, who will later care for them in return. Terms such as "first world" and "third world" will cease to exist. There will be only one world and the people living in it.

Education means informing people of the new era of globalization, mutual dependence, and shared responsibility, of which we are all part. The recent global financial crises, and the series of uprisings around the world are sufficient evidence that we affect one another on all levels of life-economic, social, and even emotional.

The ARI is working to enhance unity and solidarity among individuals and nations, in congruence with the current, interconnected reality.

As we can learn from nature, unity, reciprocity, and mutual responsibility are prerequisites to life. No organism survives unless its cells operate in harmony. Likewise, no ecosystem thrives if one of its elements is removed.

Humanity is also an integral part of the natural system. Yet, we are the only species that, as a whole, still does not follow the natural law of mutual dependence and reciprocity. The ARI holds the notion that humanity is beginning to realize that we, too, are subject to interdependence and must play by that rule if we are to survive and prosper in the 21st century.

Embracing our interdependence, rather than ignoring or resisting it, is the key to our success in building a sustainable reality for ourselves and for our children. Michael Laitman is a Professor in Ontology, PhD in Philosophy, & MSc in bio-Cybernetics, the author of 40 books translated into 17 languages, and member of the World Wisdom Council.

Anatoly Ulianov is a Professor of Psychology at the Aesthetic Education Institute, a Gestalt-therapist certified by the European Assocation for Gestalt Therapy (EAGT), and a trainer and instructor at the International Academy of Leadership.

Norma Livne is a former reporter for NBC Spanish network in the US (Telemundo NY-Channel 47); Televisa Eco news bureau chief and CNN World Report contributor in El Salvador, holding a B.A. in Communication Sciences, summa cum laude, from José Matías Delgado University in El Salvador and an M.A. in Digital Journalism from the IUP – Carlos III de Madrid University in Spain.

Leonid Makaron holds a PhD in Business Economics from the Harvard Business School, is the founder of the Trader Media East Limited (TME) business and has been serving as General Manager of Pronto Limited, a subsidiary of TME, since its inception.
 

 

Bundle of Reeds is a project of the ARI Institute which aims to teach and share knowledge about the role of the Jewish people, and raise awareness about the causes of anti-Semitism as a means to prevent further anti-Semitic crimes and threats.

The online course – What Does It Mean to be Jewish Today? – is one of many educational products created as part of the Bundle of Reeds project. Others include the in-depth 200+ book by Dr. Michael Laitman, Like A Bundle of Reeds: Why Unity and Mutual Guarantee Are Today's Call of the Hour, four booklets which emerged from the time of mid-2014, when anti-Semitic crimes and threats increased exponentially (the full book and booklets are available for free upon course sign-up), infographics showing the sharp rising trend of anti-Semitism since 2013, and a TV series broadcast on JLTV titled Like A Bundle of Reeds.

The aim of the online course is to provide more depth and time to delve into the unique messages that Bundle of Reeds expresses, and to provide a platform for asking questions, getting answers, undergoing a learning process, and providing the opportunity to enter a community interested in these topics.

The course's lesson outline is based on the chapter outline of the book Like A Bundle of Reeds: Why Unity and Mutual Guarantee Are Today's Call of the Hour, which is provided upon sign-up, and provides a place for which the book's ideas and messages can take on a practical context in your life.
